During surgery procedure, the plastic surgeon separates the skin of the nasal nose from its supporting nasal framework of bone and nose. It is then reshaped as needed, sutures the incision. If required, cartilage grafting or bone grafting, or both from other parts of the body is done, to reduce or augment the structure of the nose. Cartilage is taken from the ear and a part of it from rib cartilage.
A splint and/or packing may be placed inside the nose, and the splint or bandages are placed outside to support and protect the new structure until the healing is completed.
